"We are extremely pleased to be able to continue to serve the Piedmont Triad with low-fares and nonstop jet service to Florida," Maurice J. Gallagher, Jr., president, CEO and Chairman for Allegiant said. "With the departure of Skybus, we now view the Triad as a viable market for our unique brand of affordable and convenient access to the Sunshine State. We are confident in our ability to serve this community as we are a significantly different company than was Skybus. For instance, we have been profitable for five consecutive years and we are committed to staying that way. Notwithstanding our modest size, we are one of the strongest airlines, financially speaking, in the United States. With an operating fleet of 36 aircraft, we are also significantly larger than was Skybus."
"The presence of Skybus was a destabilizing factor for us at Piedmont Triad and a significant factor behind our original decision to withdraw," Robert Ashcroft, vice president of planning for Allegiant, said. "We preferred to stay clear of a company acting in ways we did not understand. We certainly did not predict Skybus would simply cease service last week. With Skybus no longer a factor, we are delighted to re-commit to the Triad."
