BASIC FUNCTION: Pilot Company Aircraft
 
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The first responsibility each crewmember’sis the safety of passengers, other crewmembers and the aircraft
  • Flight crewmembers report directly to the System Chief Pilot and:
    • A: Are designated to act as First Officer for each flight
    • B: Have not reached their 60th birthday
    • C: Operate Company aircraft in accordance with Company manuals, policies, procedures and FARs
    • D: Conduct themselves at all times in a businesslike and professional manner which will bring credit to themselves, their fellow crewmembers and the Company
    • E:  Treat fellow employees and passengers with courtesy and respect.  If disagreements arise between employees over operational or business concerns, such disagreements will be resolved outside the presence of passengers
    • F:  Maintain a high level of flight proficiency and knowledge of relevant manuals and procedures, practices, policies which pertain to their duties
    • G:  Report for duty at least on hour (1:00) prior to departure time.  One pilot will report to the aircraft at least 40 minutes prior to scheduled departure to monitor fueling and pre-departure servicing
    • H:  On originating flights, be on the flight deck and conduct preflight checks at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure time so as to avoid a delay should a minor problem exist
    • I:  At intermediate stops, should their duties require them to leave the flight deck or aircraft, reenter the flight deck as soon as their duties allow and prior to passengers being boarded, if possible
    • J:  Have flashlights, navigation charts and other required equipment and documents available and ready for use on the flight deck

The First Officer Qualifications for Allegiant Air are:

  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, Airplane Multiengine Land (AMEL).
  • Current Second Class Medical Certificate (must have current First Class Certificate when hired)
  • 3,000 flight hours (fixed wing), Jet and PIC time preferred.
  • All pilots must verify their flight time by logbooks.                          
  • The Chief Pilot may waive the time requirements contained above if the candidate has other experience that would make him qualified for the position.  All waivers will be in writing and placed in the pilot’s permanent record.
  •   The First Officer is the second in command and performs the duties as prescribed in this Manual, and is directed by the Captain.

Each First Officer:

  • Is familiar with the duties and responsibilities of the Captain.
  • Will bring to the Captain’s attention, assertively if necessary, information regarding the safety of flight which the Captain may not have considered.     
  • Will bring to the Captain’s attention any deviation from standard operating procedures.
  • Will be familiar with weather, payload, fuel, and other factors which apply to the flight.
  • Completes necessary avionics, flight instrument, systems and fuel quantity checks.
  • Reports mechanical discrepancies to the Captain.
  • Prepares the load manifest, including weight and balance computations, and confirm, along with the Captain, that the aircraft is properly loaded and within center of gravity and performance limits for takeoff.
  • Operates the aircraft or assists the Captain as directed.
  • Verifies that each checklist is properly completed.
  • Monitors ATC clearances and ensure that the Captain understands clearances accepted from ATC.
  • Assists in securing the aircraft when necessary at termination of the flight.
