CLEARWATER, Fla. Nov. 3, 2016 — Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) today celebrates 10 years of ultra-low fare service to Tampa / St. Pete via St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE). The service has carried more than 8.8 million passengers in and out of the Tampa Bay area. To celebrate the milestone, Allegiant and PIE are hosting a celebration at PIE.
“We’re honored to celebrate 10 years of affordable and convenient service at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport,” said Jude Bricker, Allegiant chief operating officer. “Our anniversary and continued growth in the Tampa Bay area signifies the strong demand for ultra-low fare leisure travel to one of the best beach destinations in the world.”
As the largest carrier to PIE over the last 10 years, Allegiant has operated more than 62,000 flights and served more than 8.8 million passengers from 53 origination cities. The company is forecasted to serve more than 1.7 million passengers and operate more than 15,000 flights at PIE by the end of 2016. Nearly 430 Allegiant employees are located in the Tampa Bay area, compared to the 46 employees who helped start the airline’s operation at PIE in 2006. Allegiant plays an integral role in the local and state of economies, generating $2.6 billion for the state in economic impact in 2015 alone.
“In Allegiant’s 10 years at PIE, our passengers increased by 322%, boosting our tourism economy and expanding Tampa Bay’s travel options,” said Tom Jewsbury, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport director. “Serving the third most passengers in 118 Allegiant airports, this rapid growth also stimulated our capital improvement program with over $104 million in the last decade. The economic growth for our community has been outstanding.”
