A-MAZE-ING Mazes In Mesa

By Kate Wallace

Unpack your sweater, it’s harvest season in Mesa. Shorter days and cooler nights signal that fall is here and corn stalks are high. One of the most iconic harvest experiences is the traditional corn maze. With its many twists and turns, guests will be thrilled as they make their way through acres and acres of cornfields.

Get lost in Schnepf Farms’ 10-acre corn maze

Every October, Schnepf Farms in nearby Queen Creek hosts the Pumpkin & Chili Party. The biggest attraction at this fourth-generation family farm is the 10-acre corn maze fashioned in the shape of a celebrity. Muhammad Ali, Larry King, Jay Leno, Oprah Winfrey, Phoenix Suns’ Steve Nash and NASCAR Driver Joey Logano have all had their likeness shaped into the over-the-top corn maze. There are five miles of pathway through the maze and a typical journey takes just under an hour. Those wanting the thrill of a labyrinth without as much guesswork can opt for Schnepf Farm’s three-acre maze—perfect for the kids. Admission to both mazes is included in the ticket price for the Pumpkin & Chili Party, which was voted as one of Arizona’s Best Fall Events by locals and featured as one of to the top pumpkin farms in the Southwest by Sunset Magazine. schnepffarms.com

Every fall, families flock to Vertuccio Farms to go pumpkin picking and walk the seven-acre corn maze. The difference here is the six-point scavenger hunt that promises a different outcome every time. Head here at dusk to enjoy the mystery of the maze. (Be sure to bring a flashlight after dark.) Also popular is the hay maze featuring stacks of hay that guests can wind through or hop across. Pony rides, duck races, pedal carts and a new giant jump pad for the little ones also await the family. vertucciofarms.com
