Criss Angel Continues to Revolutionize His Vegas Show

By H. Wadowski

A mesmerizing spectacle boasting more than 40 illusions, Cirque du Soleil’s hit show “CRISS ANGEL Believe” is all about making audiences believe in the impossible.

Magician of the Century Criss Angel gives his all during the fast-paced production, which features countless pieces of magic that happen in the blink of an eye.

“One trick that always blows people’s minds is one of my newer illusions, where I’m floating onstage, vanish in midair and then reappear sitting in the middle of the audience,” Angel told Sunseeker.“ The person next to me always screams, as they don’t know what happened to the person sitting next to them moments ago.”

Angel prides himself on performing mind-blowing illusions audiences can’t see anyplace else, like his jaw-dropping take on sawing a woman in half, which fans might recall seeing on his A&E series.

“No one has ever done this version of cutting a woman in half,” Angel said. “There are no boxes or cloths of any kind, just like when I did it in the park. A lot of people don’t believe that I can do what they saw on TV—they think it’s trick photography—but then when they see it for themselves, they can’t believe their eyes.”

Always busy developing inventive new illusions, Angel teased that he has a lot of material he’s looking forward to bringing to the stage when “Believe” undergoes a major transformation later this spring. Now in its eighth year at Luxor Hotel and Casino, a refreshed version of the show is scheduled to debut on May 11 featuring new costumes, lighting, illusions and possibly even a name change.

“About 60 to 70 percent of the show will be different,” said Jerry Nadal, senior vice president for Cirque du Soleil’s resident shows division.  “We want to re-energize the show for audiences and give them a reason to come see it again.”

Nadal encourages fans to see “Believe” in its current incarnation, though, so that audiences can “see where it is now and where Criss is taking it.”

“He’s really pushing the boundaries of what people have seen onstage before,” Nadal stated.

“CRISS ANGEL Believe” runs Wednesday through Sunday at 7 p.m. with additional performances select nights at 9:30 p.m. Tickets start at $59, plus tax and fees. For more information, visit
