Downtown Las Vegas has an endless array of interesting things to enjoy. With so many choices, what are the sights you must not miss? Here’s our pick of five essential experiences.
THE BERLIN WALL AT MAIN STREET STATION
After the historic symbol of the Iron Curtain came down, many of the colorful sections were moved to cities around the world. You can actually see a huge slab of the Berlin Wall inside the men’s restroom in this casino. (Note to women: inquire with security first as they’ll clear the coast and escort you in.) mainstreetcasino.com
THE HAND OF FAITH AT GOLDEN NUGGET
Get an eyeful of sparkling beauty by checking out the largest gold nugget in existence. Located in a display case near Vic & Anthony’s steakhouse and the resort’s table games pit, it weighs approximately 61 pounds. Discovered in Australia in 1980, many visitors take a selfie with this popular object. goldennugget.com/lasvegas/stay_handoffaith.asp
THE MANTIS AT DOWNTOWN CONTAINER PARK
Here’s something you don’t come across every day: a giant praying mantis! This 55-foot-tall steel sculpture built on top of a truck was originally designed for the Burning Man festival. Now, it marks the entrance to Downtown Container Park, an open-air shopping center. Come by at night when you may chance upon The Mantis in full splendor—with music blaring and fire blasting from its antennae. downtowncontainerpark.com
