Cheers in Myrtle Beach

By Sandra Chambers

A casual (flip flops are welcomed!) wine tasting venue, a unique wine-on-tap   room and a microbrewery with flights of beer and special southern appetizers all beckon to Allegiant passengers visiting Myrtle Beach, S.C.

A new 15,000-square-foot-venue in North Myrtle Beach offers wine tastings, tours, live entertainment, corking and bottling demonstrations and a retail store. This three-generation, family-owned business is the largest winery in the South and specializes in wines made from the muscadine grape. For $5 per person, guests can sample 12 wines while listening to fun and educational facts—and take home a souvenir glass. After tasting, relax on their all weather, wrap around porch with marsh views. Listen to live music on weekends. Be sure to sample their patented Sweetzer frozen drinks that can be made in non-alcoholic versions for kids.

Described as “an arcade for adults”, this venue is Myrtle Beach’s only wine-on-tap tasting room. Offering a selection of 24 climate-controlled wines on tap, guests can select from 16 reds and eight whites in one-, three- or five-ounce servings. Patrons purchase a wine card that is inserted into the top of the wine dispenser for each new sample. “We want wine to be fun,” said owner and chef Jennifer Stradtman. “We give our guests the opportunity to sample wines in all price ranges from all over the world.” Pair the wines with a variety of delightful small plate offerings such as Candied Bacon Deviled Eggs, Roasted Pepper Bruschetta or the popular Cheese & Charcuterie Board.

Malted barley bags line the floor in front of floor-to-ceiling glass windows that allow patrons to view the copper brew kettles and storage tanks inside. On the wall, a huge blackboard announces the eight brews available on tap for the day including lagers, ales, I.P.’s, wheat beers and seasonal specials. If you happen to visit when brewing is taking place, request a behind-the-scenes tour to learn about the brewing process. Souvenir growlers with special refill prices are available for purchase from 4-6 p.m. Enjoy tantalizing southern appetizers such as fried pickles, soft pretzels and a pint of bacon or order from their dinner menu, which includes their signature steaks and famous prime rib. Finish with their to-die-for salted caramel cheesecake.
