When crew members in Mesa, Arizona , met Jerry, they knew there was something special about him. At 86 years old, Jerry was flying for the very first time!
The rest of the passengers also recognized what a special moment this was and cheered for his arrival. The pilot even got up and let Jerry take a seat in his chair so he could check out the flight deck. He then made his way to his seat amidst a hero’s welcome.
As they ascended into the air and headed north, Jerry vividly recalls how amazing it was to see the Grand Canyon from above. Throughout the flight, we got to know Jerry and his wife, Marilyn, a little better and realized that their incredible (and adorable) story expanded way beyond this first flight.
Humble Beginnings
The two met square dancing one night and hit it off. They got married and raised a family on Jerry’s farm. It had been in his family for 100 years!
As time passed, it became harder to maintain. The kids grew up and started their own lives and families. After much deliberation, Jerry and Marilyn decided to sell the farm to an event company that converted the space into a beautiful wedding venue with all the original buildings still intact.
After selling the farm, the duo packed up and hit the road. They traveled full time for months for square dancing. The square-dancing community is another family for them, and they love connecting with the people it draws.
Creating Memories with Allegiant
They might have kept going, if it wasn’t for their grandson’s winter wedding. The drive would be too long, so they made the decision to take their first flight to Great Falls, Montana . For the first time in 12 years, they got to spend Christmas with their family.
When asked if he would fly again, Jerry quickly brought up a hopeful trip to Branson, Missouri Throughout all their travels, Branson was never on the list. This year they hope to go and see everything the tourist town has to offer!
We were so honored to be a part of this heartwarming story. Can’t wait to have you back on-board Jerry!
