1. Schedule a Rum Tasting Tour

You can find Alligator Bay Distillers just outside of Punta Gorda. The “Rum Brothers” use 100% Floridian black strap molasses locally sourced from Clewiston, Florida.

Book a free tour at the distillery to learn more about how handcrafted Floridian spirits are made. The tours start at the top of the hour and are limited to 15 people. At the end, you can enjoy some free tastings!

2. Take a Sunset Cruise

Boat tours are a popular pastime in Punta Gorda, Florida. King Fisher Fleet offers an affordable sunset cruise that includes drinks and snacks for purchase, stunning ocean views, and friendly staff.

This 90-minute excursion is a relaxing way to end your day.

3. Tour the Murals

This mural collection started in 1995 when Dr. Robert Andrews came to the city of Punta Gorda, Florida and proposed an idea. He wanted to preserve the history and culture of the area with historic murals painted around the city.

There are 31 murals spread throughout Punta Gorda. You can either download a map and take your own walking tour, or schedule one through the Punta Gorda Historic Mural Society.

4. Shop at Fisherman’s Village

Fisherman’s Village is just across the river from Charlotte Harbor and is the tourist hotspot of Punta Gorda. Immerse yourself in the curated collection of boutique shops, art galleries, and delicious restaurants.

6. Plan a Day Trip to Matlacha

Pronounced (mat-la-SHAY), Matlacha, Florida is known as the artsiest town in Florida. This colorful town relied on the fishing industry for its economy. But after falling on hard times in the 1990’s when commercial fishing took a downturn, the residents of Matlacha decided to take things into their own hands.

In order to attract the crowds once again, they decided to paint the whole town in bright colors and funky designs. Just a 30-minute drive from Punta Gorda, Matlacha is a great place to spend the day exploring.

7. Stroll Through the Peace River Botanical and Sculpture Gardens

Take a relaxing walk along the Peace River  in Punta Gorda through 30 acres of internationally inspired gardens that boast plants from five ecosystems. Along the way, you’ll find unique sculptures from world-renown artists.
